Structural testing is a crucial element in composite product development, qualification and production. We have dedicated test engineers, that are experienced in composites testing. These tests can be on material, laminate or component level. We have in-house test equipment as well as excellent access to external test facilities. In most cases, Airborne test engineers carry out the tests themselves on the external equipment.

Tests that are regularly performed are:

• Mechanical tests (tensile, compression, bending, fatigue)
• Laminate quality tests (void content measurement, microscopy, ILSS, dye penetrant inspection)
• Thermo-mechanical tests (DSC, DMA, etc)
• Geometrical measurement with Faro laser tracker
• High pressure testing, up to 2000 bar internal pressure and 600 bar external pressure. At room temperature and elevated temperatures, both short and long term.
• Bending fatigue combined with internal pressure

Another important part is non-destructive inspection. We have an ultrasonic airscan for quality inspection of sandwich panels, a Faro laser tracker for geometrical inspection of parts and tools, and we use ultrasonic water-based scanning on external facilities.
