Airborne will present the Mooncat unmanned target towing vehicle on the Eurosatory 2006 exhibition next month in Paris (booth Nr. H-11-10).
The Mooncat is an autonomous GPS guided Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) for military use. Designed to meet the stringent requirements of modern armed forces, the Mooncat addresses the increasing demand to safeguard a soldier’s well-being by keeping him out of dangerous areas and out of harm’s way. The Mooncat is powered by a 65 kW turbo diesel engine and has permanent 4 wheel drive. This gives the Mooncat a high cross-country mobility in any terrain under any weather condition.
Thanks to its navigation computer, the Mooncat can negotiate routes according to either pre-arranged routes, or through real-time remote control driving. The unmanned vehicle has been designed as a flexible multi-role platform, capable of performing a wide range of missions. Its 3,000 kg payload and high towing capacity ensure sufficient adaptability. The Mooncat has been in use with the Royal Netherlands Army as a target tower for tank training since 1992 and is developed and produced by a Dutch consortium of companies: Airborne Composites B.V. (overall design and composites parts), Aarding Special Products B.V. (system integration and metal production), Frog Navigation Sustems B.V. (free ranging computer and navigation system) and Bosch Rexroth B.V. (hydrostatic drive and control).
