The Royal Dutch Army exploits Sagem’s Sperwer UAV for reconnaissance missions e.g. in NATO operations. During hard landings in rough terrain the belly pod (a structural part at the bottom of the unmanned aerial vehicle) may get damaged. Airborne has been selected to perform structural repair work on the damaged parts.
The glass fiber sandwich construction is repaired by means of wet lay-up or prepreg techniques, with vacuum assisted oven curing. The corresponding Structural Repair Manual (SRM) has been developed by Airborne Composites in accordance with the JAR-145 airworthiness regulations.
