News : Radomes for Royal Netherlands Navy

Last month Airborne Composites received an order for the engineering and manufacturing of a composite naval radome. The order to develop this seven-meter long structure was awarded by the Dutch Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) and will be installed on the new Landing Platform Dock (LPD-2). In the pictures below the sister ship, LPD-1 (left) and the impression of the LPD-2 (right) are shown.

The project will start with the engineering of the composite structure, including internal parts to be mounted on the antenna. After tooling manufacturing and process engineering the production of the first test article will start. A full-scale prototype, including antenna, will be subjected to vibrational testing. After successful execution of this test program the actual product will be manufactured, to be completed beginning of December 2006. Installation on board of the ship, 36 meter above sea level, is planned before the end of this year. This project is a continuation of the long-term relationship that Airborne has with the DMO in the development of high-tech composite structures.
